Candidates will propose innovative technology-based solutions to an identified instructional need.
What Is: The purpose of this technology needs assessment was to identify gaps in my school's current technology infrastructure and determine specific areas that needed improvement to enhance educational outcomes.
Process: As a first step in the assessment, I developed three assessment tools: an electronic Teacher Survey (Microsoft Forms), an interview with teachers on different grade levels, an administrator, and an IT support specialist, and a one-question survey sent to the entire faculty, asking them to rank their three most pressing needs. After collecting responses, I analyzed them and developed a description of the current status of technology at my school, considering the valuable input of all stakeholders. The results were presented in both narrative and graphical format, with accompanying commentary and conclusions. Based on these outcomes, I was able to determine the most pressing needs for technology, which informed my next step - creating an action plan.
Connect: This assessment informed my technology plan for our school and a subsequent grant application aimed at securing funds for technology upgrades necessary to enhance instruction for students at my school.
What Is: This Technology Plan was developed based on the data received from the needs assessment (artifact 1) for the purpose of applying for a grant to secure funds necessary to address technology needs at my school.
Process: The plan included identifying key stakeholders responsible for the plan implementation, evaluating the current technology access status, and proposing technology goals. I set three sets of goals that were essential for a successful implementation of the plan:
goals for increased student access to technology;
goals for teacher access to technology;
goals for school access to technology.
Next, I anticipated the timeline for the plan implementation by setting due dates for securing funds, acquiring equipment, providing professional development, and evaluating the plan's success. In addition, I proposed a budget for the necessary technology and accessories and identified personnel responsible for the budget. As part of the plan, I addressed internet safety and concluded with the process for monitoring and evaluating plan implementation.
Connect: This artifact was developed to lay out a road map for the acquisition of new technological equipment necessary for our school and student success. As a direct result of assessing the school's needs and planning for the plan implementation and evaluation, I have developed a solid understanding of all necessary steps when proposing a technology-based solution to an identified instructional need. innovative solution
Working on a technology needs assessment and a subsequent action plan provided me with a valuable learning experience. While I enjoyed the process, it was a lengthy but worthwhile journey that involved developing data collection instruments, gathering input from various stakeholders, identifying pressing needs, and designing effective and attainable solutions. Before taking this class, I only had a basic understanding of what went into the grant application process. Working on these artifacts allowed me to gain a great deal of knowledge on the process, along with trying out my leadership abilities. This experience gave me a clearer understanding and appreciation of how detailed and careful planning directly supports school improvement efforts.
