Educators understand and use data to drive their instruction and support students in achieving their learning goals.
What Is: This artifact is the second part of a report developed to identify, analyze, and address a human performance gap at an elementary school.
Process: As a group of six, we developed this document to plan, collect, and analyze data at the client school as well as to make recommendations for improvement. The first step of the process was developing a plan for data collection, which included creating data collection instruments and identifying and analyzing necessary documents. At the next step, our team created this document to demonstrate our analysis of the findings, the identified potential causes of the performance problem, and our recommendations on the intervention strategies. The last part of the report also addressed possible barriers to successful implementation.
Connect: Working on this project allowed me to use and further develop my critical thinking and analytical skills. Furthermore, I took on a leadership role by identifying a performance problem at my school, collecting and analyzing data, and working collaboratively with my team members to develop solutions and to address the performance gap.
Solar System Interactive Assessment (Classkick.com)
What Is: This Assessment Plan document and the accompanying web-based assessment program were created to provide an interactive, engaging, technology-based evaluation tool for a client elementary school teacher.
Process: As the first step of the assessment development process, I identified goals and objectives to assess my client's 4th graders ' knowledge of the Solar System. I selected various interactive tools that would serve a specific purpose in the assessment. The next step was to develop step-by-step, highly detailed instructions for the teacher. Finally, I crafted a rubric that the teacher would use to measure students' performance on the assessment. My plan also included samples of student work and a plan for differentiation. I used Canva to create presentation slides, which I uploaded to Classkick. My choice of the latter was due to the lack of interactive features in Canva. Following the administration of the assessment, my client provided me with her feedback and the students' results, allowing me to create an Implementation Report, included as the last part of this artifact.
Connect: Working on this semester-long project allowed me to use technology to design and implement various types of assessments that accommodated diverse learners. My web-based assessment program offered students different avenues to demonstrate their understanding and to reflect on their learning through the use of technology. This program proved to be beneficial to students of all abilities due to its accessibility and immediate feedback.
Reflecting on these two projects, I realize how much I have grown in my ability to analyze data, identify performance problems, and design technology-based solutions that support student learning. Working on the Human Performance Improvement report was a truly enlightening experience that strengthened my skills in data collection and analysis, while also giving me the opportunity to lead my team and help improve performance within my school. The web-based assessment program was my chance to work with a client who needed a meaningful solution that would provide differentiated opportunities for students to demonstrate understanding and reflect on their learning. These two projects greatly improved my understanding of how careful planning, data collection, and innovative use of technology can address various challenges.
