Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems.
What Is: This document is the first part of the report on the overarching project aimed at identifying, exploring, and providing remediation solutions to a human performance problem at a school site.
Process: As a group of six, we developed the Human Performance Improvement Report, where we identified a problem, described the data and its importance, the performance gap, the potential causes, and the proposed solutions. As part of the report, the first few pages of this artifact present the executive summary that outlines the parts of the report. This summary was developed as the last step in the process; however, it was reflected at the beginning of the report. Following the summary, this artifact contains the Performance Systems Analysis Alignment Tables that our team used to graphically represent the data collection process, the proposed solutions, and their alignment to the problem. Following the tables, our group described the organization and the performance problem.
Connect: Working on this semester-long project presented multiple opportunities for our team collaboration as we had to work together continuously to identify the problem, develop data collection instruments, analyze the data, and its relevance to the performance gap, and cohesively present our findings.
What Is: This video was created by our team to present the performance problem that we identified for our project.
Process: When creating this video presentation, each team member was assigned a specific part to work on. We had to design the slides, present information engagingly, and record voice-over using our own audio recordings. We got together to edit the presentation and to put the final touches on it.
Connect: Working on this video allowed me to collaborate with five other group members. I had an opportunity to exchange many ideas with my colleagues, brainstorm solutions to the problem, and discover and share resources needed to successfully address the identified challenges. Each team member had a chance to make valuable contributions to the project, including creative solutions when designing this video.
One of the benefits and challenges of my profession as an educator is collaboration with others. Sometimes, it is hard to find the time and meaningful ways to exchange ideas and engage with others to find effective solutions. Working on this report and video presentation proved to be an illuminating experience where six people came together to solve a unique and complex problem. This journey was not without its challenges, especially due to the size of the group. However, I am grateful for having experienced this collaboration. As the employee of the client school, I had to be the most proactive member of the group. However, I feel that this project benefited me the most, as I acquired many skills that will be vital for my professional growth.
